Hi Friends!
My January home
is wanting a warm, fresh, winter look.
I'm thinking this big white snowflake
painted on blue-gray boards
will make warm winter wall art.
I know...fence board love again.
But it's an easily available wood
that offers the same worn quality of old pallets.
The size of this piece is 22" x 22".
I don't know if there are rules about this
but I used paint and stain together .
I've done this before on My $15 Barnwood Backdrop
and just like what happens
when I base with a raw sienna
and then wipe over in places with a dark stain.
And here I go again with the
I love this color!
I've used it on
and
So I painted next in Shutter Gray
and then used MMS antique wax on the edges.
I picked a snowflake shape and transferred to paper
covering both sides with clear packaging tape
to create a sturdy stencil.
Then I cut out the shape
and painted the snowflake with Kilz.
Add some dark gray shading
to the right and bottom sides for shadow.
Then sand over all.
So now you have a simple winter icon
in warm texture and color.
Enjoy your January Snowflakes!

Deb, I've always liked that barnwood backdrop, and now you've gone and done it again. I really like this snowflake. I like that you added the little shadow detail, which gives it that little bit extra. And I like the combination of paint and stain that you used. It's beautiful! Thanks for the tutorial!
Debbie
Simple and Stunning! Love that combination and hung on your barnwood backdrop it really pops!
Okay, you have inspired me today! I love this one and you make it look so easy!

Turned out fabulous!
So cool and I love the weathered grey look.
Deb,
You have the greatest ideas. I absolutely love this board you did! Now I want one!
You make this look so "easy" and yet I think it would be something that even a novice painter could do. It looks charming and cozy!
LOVE this! Thanks!
Deb - What a perfect piece for this time of the year!!

THis is gorgeous! love the colors of this pallet board!
I looked on the internet for different shapes that were simple. At first I cut one out of paper. Then I ended up sketching a large simple design.
This is so pretty! What a great piece of winter art. :)
What a great tutorial! Thank you! I need more 'winter' decor so my house isn't so empty looking after taking down Christmas decor!
Love the simplicity of this! You can tell that you are a "real painter" by the shading you did, I would have stencilled and been done, but that really adds the finishing touch.
Deb, I love this project. You did a fablous job. I love the paint color too. I would love to make something like this in a smaller scale to sit on my wall shelves! I just started a new blog hop and would love for you to come over and link up your post or any social media. http://designeddecor.com/talkin-about-thursday-2/
