I gathered some other
fun facts
about the lake
and had a small poster made:
The poster is 12" X 12" and cost $3.50
when I ordered it half price through Zazzle.
I thought it would be fun to seal the poster
on top of an end table
and have a very personalized piece.
I had just the little end table that would work.
But does it need some work!
The style is dated with all of the little waves and curls.
So what's a girl to do but Cut 'em off.
Girl + Saw = Problem Solved
Much Better Now.
Ready to paint Semi-gloss Black.
I didn't want to have heavy coverage.
I don't mind if some of the brown wood
underneath shows through.
Then I applied the poster to the top.
I used a spray glue for adhesive.
Press all of the air bubbles out.
Let dry
then sand all of the edges of the poster
and the poster itself.
Also sand all of the edges of the end table
for a worn look
Use a finer sandpaper for the main body of the poster.
You can use a coarse sandpaper for the edges.

Since I'm going with a very personalized lake theme
I decided to paint the speed limit 23 on the sides.
Block off a rectangle with painter's tape
and brush in white leaving some streaks.
Make a template with pencil lines on the back
and transfer to the wood.
Fill in with black paint
using tape as a guide for your lettering.
Using rusts, raw sienna, and black
use a dry brush stroke on corners
and random places on sign
to show an aged look.
Make sure to off load your paint
on a paper towel so the application
is light and streaky.
I used this technique on my Route 66 Sign.
Then for another custom detail
I added a boat tie down
for a handle.
I put a couple of coats of poly acrylic sealer over the poster.
It's kind of a masculine piece.
It would be fun to customize one for a guys room
and use road signs.
You could even try to find an old car door handle
for a drawer pull.....
