Hey friends, welcome

to another paint project!

I have this little step stool

that Nana wanted me to paint

for her bathroom.

The smaller kiddos

will use it to step up

and wash their hands.

Here are some of the paint colors I used.

I actually included a darker blue too.

I've used this dip and drag technique

on some of my other furniture pieces

like the Sand and Shells dresser.

I used chalk to outline

the placement of the letters.

Papa grew up on the Platte River

selling bait with his dad

so this text will have special meaning.

I sanded all over to create a weathered look

and added a little bobber jewelry.

It will be a little bit of nostalgia for Nana and Papa.

It will also be very practical for the kids that need a boost.

I hope you have some fun projects going on as well...

Hickory Nut Wreath

What a great time of year

for a nature walk.

I took a bag

because I had a plan.

I knew I wanted to make

a wreath

that had rhythm.

Design Rhythm.

I wanted natural elements that

would have a repetitve pattern

with a lot of symmetry.

I really was looking for

smooth large acorns.

The squirrels wanted that kind too.

But they didn't like

the hickory nuts

like I did!

Perfect brown beauties

covered the ground

and I couldn't gather them

fast enough.

I knew I wanted the wreath

to have a mounded rounded form.

I cut the backing from cardboard

making a 10 1/2" circle

with a 4" center.

Really, next time I might cut the center hole larger.

Then I cut a circle of batting slightly larger.

I also cut strips of batting and clipped

to shape into a high center.

Now cutting strips of craft paper,

anchor with a glue gun

and keep wrapping around

for a smooth form.

Spray paint black or dark brown

so you have a nice blending background.

Then start gluing the nuts on.

I think next time I would start

at the very back edge and work my way to the center.

Lake Girl Glues

and glues...

But oh so worth it.

A coat of Clear Glossy Sealer

really brings out the brown, orange , red, and black.

It will make a great fall addition

and even Christmas too.

It reminded my friend of old antique jingle bells.

Love that!

Really, you could get a similar look

with acorns or walnuts.

I hope you're all enjoying the fall season.
