Making Dining Room Wall Art

gather,

pray,

wine,

dine,

and laugh...

blessings to share in your home.

So large board wall art can express that sentiment

in your dining room.

I used 3 boards...

Two 1 x 8's. (which actually measure 7.25")

and

One 1 x 4 (which actually measures 3.5")

The boards are 48" long,

so the entire piece measures 18" x 48".

It can hang either vertical or horizontal.

I didn't have a place to hang horizontal to show you,

so I rotated the fork and spoon art

in photoshop to give you an idea

of how that would look.

After connecting the boards with a large sheet of utility panel

on back, I based in a brown wash and then

top coated in off white/white.

Lifting the paint brush before I get to the edges

leaves a brown edge.

I pencil transferred this pattern onto the board.

Then using tan and black,

I put both colors on my brush and started painting.

I shaded the bottom and right edges black

and

also shaded the entire outer boards black.

Using a dry chip brush, I added white highlights.

For the lettering I used a small flat brush

and pressed down and flat on all down strokes

and then lifted the brush onto it's side

for a fine line upstroke.

Because white paint filled in between the boards,

I took a butter knife and ran in between to get a

separated board look.

Large scale pieces are fun to make

because you can get art with impact

and it is budget friendly.

You can find details on the "Eat Drink and be Merry" sign here.

And this art will fit either a horizontal or vertical space.

I always appreciate your visit!

Hi Deb! Love this piece! The colors will go with any room :0) What type of hardware do you use to hang your pieces with? ... Just curious if there is a favorite you have that is easy to install yet strong enough to hold up a large piece.
Have a great day!
Smiles!

Hi Terry!
I like to use heavy duty D rings. That way I can either hang on the ring itself or stretch heavy picture wire between two of them.
Thanks!

You make it looks so easy, I'm almost considering trying to make my own.(But I know mine would not end up looking anywhere near as beautiful.) Thanks for the peak into how you paint and for the inspiration.
