Paint A Sign for your Dining Room

As Fall approaches,

I think about family dinners,

getting together, and giving thanks.

This DIY Sign will be a great addition 

for your dining room.

Painted with gray and white stripes

and arrow details,

"Gather, Give Thanks, and Feast"

could really be for anytime of year.

The sign dimension is 21" x 27".

Using fenceboards,

old or new,

here is how they are attached on back.

Now for a watered down brown paint wash.

Then alternate gray and white stripes

using a light application so that you leave

some of the under color showing through.

I used "River Stone" Minwax acrylic stain for the gray.

I did add just a slight bit of brown to it.

I also mixed a bit of black with the gray for another grunge layer.

That was just a light application to darken some of the edges.

On the back side of my pattern,

I used pencil transfer - easier to read on the white stripes,

and a chalk transfer - easier to read on the gray stripes.

I also used the River Stone acrylic stain for the lettering.

Cheryl was painting with me today

and made a sign of her own

with the white and gray stripes.

about what sentiment you want on your sign!

This is such a fun time of year

decorating our homes for fall.

I can't wait to hammer a nail in one of my new walls!

Large Word Art for Girls Room

Words to encourage Girls-

What a nice reminder this will be

for Kaita as it hangs on her bedroom wall.

This is a large piece of art

measuring 27" x 49".

Here are some of the colors that I used

and photos of letter layout and pencil transfer.

To dry brush white over the top of lettering,

use an old ragged edge brush.

Dip into white paint.

Rub off onto paper towel

and lightly pull across paint surface.

Also dry brush pink trim.

Stabilize back frame

and use D rings to hang.

This large word art will 

hang on a bright green wall.

Imagine the impact you can make

with word art -

encouraging her heart everyday-

and making a fun graphic color statement in her room.

and what makes them special.

 

What about jotting your journey down

 

in word art.

 

 

 

 

And what about

 

putting it on something practical

 

like these folding trays.

 

 

 

 

It was Jeanne's idea.

 

She had these TV Trays...

 

nothing special.

 

 

 

 

We'll change that in a hurry

 

with a little bit of paint.

 

Aquas, Sea greens, Raw Sienna,

 

Hazelnut Brown, Black, and Camel

 

will do the trick.

 

 

 

 

Good ol' Dip and Drag.

On this project I taped off the lines

 

for the lettering,

 

chalked in the words,

 

and painted with a small flat brush.

 

 

 

 

 

 

There's a little Raw Sienna Shade

 

and a liner brush shadow.

Recycle Old Framed Prints to New Word Art

Phew!

My computer is working again.

While it was acting up,

unfortunately, I was having a meltdown too.

It's up.

I'm good.

And here's a little something I was working on.

My friend, Ann, had some older framed prints

that she wanted to redo.

New Word Art for the bathroom

will give these older pictures new life.

So it's easy to take everything apart

keeping the matte separate.

I used a new piece of foamboard

to paint a white and ivory blend.

After printing the text in Channel font

I penciled the back and pressed the transfer from the front.

Then I used a crisp little flat brush

to paint in the lettering.

Ann got this idea from Pottery Barn.

Changing up the wording a bit,

she will have fun reminders for the grandchildren.

So a fresh recycle

will bring trendy style

to Ann's bath.

It sure makes you think about

old things in a new way.

So glad to have my keyboard back!
