It's old.
It's ours.
It's been through a few floods on the Platte River.
But we're embracing this piece
passed down to us
and making it our own.
Here is the before.
I am so excited about the arrival of my Milk Paint
and this is just the piece I decided to try it on.
I'm hooked.
Even though I didn't get a lot of chippy happenings,
I got a lot of nice distressed areas that are perfectly worn looking.
I watched Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint Video.
I applied two coats of paint in Shutter Gray. (love)
There was definitely more breakdown reaction after the second coat.
A little scraping with a putty knife.
A little sanding.
Then onto my tattoo.
I decided to brand my sideboard with a stamp.
Because the generations before us lived on the Platte River
so did this furniture.
Because they survived the floods
so did this furniture.
It's where they came from.
So we'll wear it proud.
A pencil transfer, a chalk outline, and liner brush detail
create the faded look I want.
I sanded it a bit
and then applied the clear wax.
I added just a small amount of dark wax to some of the edges.
I used new hardware
and liked the mix of the black with the glass.
I also liked the natural wood top
(stripped two coats of sealer then waxed)
We will be using this as our new tv stand.
You might remember I painted one before in Bahama Blue.
Well, you gotta like change around here
because the Bahama Blue
turned Caramel Apple
and found a new home.
Our new inherited piece will stay with us.
Warm.
Worn.
Just the way I like it
The Family Stamp
will make sure this is home.
So it's official.
Milk Paint Love Here.
Can't wait to try it again!
Always glad to have you visit friends!

Great! Love how it is personal to you and love how you chose to celebrate that! Beautiful piece.
I love this dresser. I have a family dresser that has been passed down four generations. It also came from near the Platt River (Gresham Nebraska). I love you idea of showing where it comes from, so I am going to re-work your idea and add family names too. Thanks for the great idea!
How fun! That's such a similar situation. Glad you can use the idea. I'd love to see it when you're done,
Deb

Love this. So beautiful.
What an amazing piece, I just love your design, the finished color, the meaning behind it ~ extraordinary!!
This is so fantastic! I have had so many people - friends, clients, etc who have pieces of furniture that have been passed down to them, and they want to keep it but they just don't love the piece as-is. What a spectacular way to personalize a piece. Kudos to you!! Pinned, shared. Love it. Visiting via Roadkill Rescue where your plant stand was featured. So glad I stopped by!!

Sometimes when I see a piece of furniture I don't just think it is beautiful... I have an emotional reaction. This piece creates an emotional reaction. Great job, just really lovely work!
This is a gorgeous make over. I would love to know how you did the tattoo. What program were you using?
I used Photoshop to lay out the design.
WOW! This is wonderful!!!
This piece is amazing!!! Do you have any experience with painting a piece for outdoor use? I was wondering if I would need some additional steps to protect the wood from rotting.
