Storage Chest / Toy Box gets Paint Personality

So today

I am thinking of all of you out there

with the same creative spirit to "make and do".

It's something we just have inside of us.

A reader reminded me of that today,

and I thought about the verse in Acts 17:28

"In Him, we live and move and have our being".

So this is how I live and move

and hope some of my paint projects

are ideas that you can enjoy too!

Here's the latest -

It's a storage chest

that could be used in so many ways.

Who doesn't need more storage!

Here is the before:

Just a little dated.

Removing the wood scallop detail,

the top wood trim,

and the handles

will give it a whole new look.

After some sanding and deglosser,

I layered reds over black.

Then for the top,

I used cardstock to Dip and Drag

the colors on the stripes.

Now look at that Paint Personality!

So new and fresh and 2013.

Blankets, Photo Albums, and Toys

are just a few storage ideas

for this new chest.

This piece will be looking for a home!

It will be displayed at "The Keeping Room"

in Nebraska City this weekend.

Many thanks for your visits!

Harvest Pumpkin with Pallet Frame

Hey friends!

I have another pumpkin design

to share.

It's like an old mercantile sign

with lettering, flourishes,

and stained pallet wood frame.

It would look great resting on a buffet

with all of the fall fixin's.

The background is deep green

with a black shaded edge.

The pumpkin is painted with

Folkart raw sienna and

Americana Antique Gold.

(plus a little burnt sienna on the shade)

The lettering is

craftsmart buttercream with antique gold.

The "Harvest" font is FFF Tusj size 325 bold.

The smaller font is Coneria Script Demo at 115.

The sign is 26" x 32"

It reminds me of the orchard

and the pumpkin patch.

Love bringing the sentiment of those places home,

Deb

Handpainted Fall Wheat Door Hanging

Butter, Caramel and Chocolate.

I know what you're thinking,

but I'm not in the kitchen.

This is my paint palette today.

Oh, but I am so ready to make

banana bread and pumpkin pie.

filling the house up

with everything warm and wonderful.

People too.

A time to Gather.

So how about this for a warm fall welcome.

Starting with the fence board build.

Then it's all about graduated paint color,

tone on tone.

Starting on the bottom board with

two shades of cream.

Using a piece of cardstock for my paint tool,

I drag the paint on in a layered look.

Add some cream highlights.

Muddy up the wheat stems with some cream paint on cardstock

giving it a "not so perfect" finish.

A little grungy and worn.

Butter, caramel and chocolate

in layered paint style

are a warm backdrop for

stems of fall wheat and

"Brush Script" letters.

An invitation to friends and family.

Words that speak of the season.

Words that welcome people into your home

and around your table.

What a fun season!
