Well, I have Loved Aimee Weaver's Art and

had pinned her pallet beach art

as inspiration for some old wood

I had in the garage.

Here is my Pin

Changing it up a bit,

I made a long art board

for my home:

I wanted a piece extra long.

That way I can decide to use it above the tv

or as a headboard

or down my long hallway.

Once upon a time

I found an old wooden fence in the trash,

loaded it in the truck,

then tore it apart

into useable pieces.

After deciding placement of the boards,

I cut one board in half

to stagger the arrangement.

Then I used underlayment

to connect the boards on the back 

and made a hanger with picture wire.

Let the painting begin...

Base coat white - Not full coverage

A little sand in the mix.

Then some blues...

*I like to use Americana Sea Breeze

and Craftsmart Pool Blue with white 

for the lighter water.

Then for the darker I use Folkart Teal

and any navy mixed with black.

After the brush application,

I did a little dip and drag with cardstock

over the layers to get the effect I wanted

(separation of color)

I wanted the surf line to look frothy

and have a harder edge in places so

I drug white paint with a metal knife.

On the sea and sky I wanted a softer white blend

so I used a brush.

But the sand gets the cardstock dip and drag

and the knife.

The dark black edge on the horizon adds the most depth.

Pull a line of white paint

across the middle of the center board

for a surf line.

Splatter Sand on the bottom edge

Paint the edges Charcoal

A New Way to Hang

Good Day

to all of my blog loving friends!

I have a new gadget

for your art supplies.

It's a binder ring.

You'll find it in Office Supplies.

I was trying to think of a new way

to hang a wooden name sign.

Something different.

Something with a little personality.

So I went for the Ring Bling.

You could use this hanging design

with a canvas panel

or wood.

You could use grommets in the canvas panel

and run the ring through.

My sign here was 3/4" wood

so I had to drill a sizeable hole

to get the ring through.

(about 1/4" drill bit)

The ring is about 1 5/8" diameter.

It's fun to change it up

and

add a twist.

This bright and happy name sign

gets a little bit of jewelry

to welcome her guests

at the front door.

A simple metal ring

dresses her up.

My Favorite Number

I used to dream

about living at the lake.

About five years ago

we bought a lot

but we weren't ready

to live there full time yet.

But I knew it would happen someday.

So while I was waiting

to live at Lot 22

I made a big canvas to remind me of it.

I wanted something big and graphic

and kind of reminded me of

an old football jersey.

To get the old worn jersey look

the most important tool is an old chip brush.

You can see more about this dry brush

application that I did on this Route 66 Sign.

Use darker colors to shade at the bottom

and at the right of the numbers.

I even darkened the shading at the

bottom right corner of the canvas.

I also used a dry brush white.

Because I used yard canvas

I could just turn under the edges and glue.

Then I added grommets to the top.

You can see how I did that here.

Since this is canvas by the yard you will just

cut a hole rather than drill.

Dry brush areas around the numbers and letters.

Now I have my canvas hanging on the

wall above my sofa.

You can see it from the lake when you're in the boat.

But while I was still living in my home before this

I kept my favorite number hanging

as a reminder of the future.

I clipped lake pictures all around it

so that it was a dream board.

I think it would be fun to make a canvas

with your kid's sports jersey number

and hang sport pics all around.

It could be great in a boys or girls bedroom.

So it can be your favorite number

or jersey art....

big and bold impact.

I'm loving summer,

but, wow, have I been busy!
