Coffee Sign - Good Company - Sanding Canvas

I have a new paint trick

for you today!

What says welcome

more than a hot cup of coffee.

I think it's a great way to greet your guests.

I'm sanding my painted canvas

to give it a worn look.

I base paint the canvas in light brown.

Then paint over with black, let dry, and sand.

Because it's canvas, you can see the nubby threads

exposed after sanding.

I like the way it gives an "old sign" feel,

shows texture,

and has a warm, worn appearance.

Chalk the back of your template

and pen press from the front onto the black canvas.

Use Folkart camel for the ribbon

and coffee cup.

Again,  I sanded over those areas.

Use a liner brush for much of the detail.

Dry brush some white over coffee cup.

Grommets and ribbon on top...

So now you can add sandpaper

to even your canvas paintings.

I love to try new things with paint.

Have a great weekend painting friends!

Deb

G'Day from Oz! That is a really gorgeous idea. I love coffee so would be thrilled if someone welcomed me with a sign like that!

If you have a minute to spare I’d be thrilled if you could pop by and join in with this week's Say G’day Saturday linky party. It has just started and this would be a fabulous addition!

Best wishes for a great weekend,
Natasha in Oz

Great sign! I love your technique. I had a V8 moment when I saw you used chalk on the back for a dark colored sign. : )

Hi Deb! I realized I haven't seen a post from you for awhile and I don't think I'm getting any of the blogs updates on my old Google Friends Connect link. Frustrating. So I'm following via email now.
I LOVE this sign. So cute. Thank you for giving us a tutorial.
Blessings,
Patti
