Handpainted Fall Wheat Door Hanging

Butter, Caramel and Chocolate.

I know what you're thinking,

but I'm not in the kitchen.

This is my paint palette today.

Oh, but I am so ready to make

banana bread and pumpkin pie.

filling the house up

with everything warm and wonderful.

People too.

A time to Gather.

So how about this for a warm fall welcome.

Starting with the fence board build.

Then it's all about graduated paint color,

tone on tone.

Starting on the bottom board with

two shades of cream.

Using a piece of cardstock for my paint tool,

I drag the paint on in a layered look.

Add some cream highlights.

Muddy up the wheat stems with some cream paint on cardstock

giving it a "not so perfect" finish.

A little grungy and worn.

Butter, caramel and chocolate

in layered paint style

are a warm backdrop for

stems of fall wheat and

"Brush Script" letters.

An invitation to friends and family.

Words that speak of the season.

Words that welcome people into your home

and around your table.

What a fun season!
