Red and White Striped Water Ski with Mason Jar Lantern

Hey friends!

I hope you all had a great weekend.

I'm in the Red and White Summer Stripe mood.

So, I've had this iron hook

that holds a candle or jar

and I've been waiting for just the right place

to hang it.

I'm on a roll decorating with water skis.

I have painted some for Photo Holders.

Today, I'm using one

to mount my iron hook.

I used Holiday Red and Engine Red

for the stripes.

Then, a fine charcoal line on the edges of the stripes.

Sand all outside edges

and rub black paint along the sanded edge.

Mount the iron hook.

Attach a D Ring on the back.

It's really a quick and fun project.

I know you can buy iron hooks like these

in retail shops or you could use

a metal plant hanger.

You could also hang a small lantern on the hook.

Or , what about a star ornament.

And, you know what -

you don't even need to use a water ski.

You could get a similar look

with just a long piece of fence board

painted with stripes.

Are you thinking

about where you can

put a graphic stripe pattern

in your home?

My favorite pattern!

Have a great week,

Deb

  1. That ski jar lantern is just too fun. I would have to do that in a heartbeat if I had a lake home!

  5. Really love the ski with lantern on hook. I have couple sconce hooks so might just have to use them as you did. I could have hubs cut a board to resemble a water ski I guess. Love the red and white stripes. Yours looks so nice and love the skis with the pictures on them. Great ideas, glad you shared these. Found your post thru Make the scene Monday. I'm already subscribed to your blog. Happy summer

  6. Really, just a long fenceboard would be good or several short boards laying horizontal but in a long narrow form....doesn't need to be a waterski. Or, what about an oar? just brainstorming.

  7. A long fence board would work - but the waterski is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
    Love it!

  29. I googled... but didn't see the hooks. Do you know what they're called? thx

  30. I see a hanging candle caddy that is similar at masonjarshoppe.com.
It is called a quart jar caddy. Then you could find a wall mounted hook to go with.
Hope you can find something that works! You could always just use a hook and hang a mason jar that has a wire wrapped basket handle.

  32. Well isn't that clever? Are they old skis you used to use? Or do you find them in thrift shops? I love the three of them together. That's a great idea to hang the lantern from it. Your mind is obviously always churning away, thinking of more things to paint! :) I also loved the way you used the skis with the pictures on them. That's one of (many of) my favorite posts of yours. Another job well done Deb!
