Old Mirror gets a Striped Coastal Update

Hi Friends,
Howling wind and snow here today.
But I know Spring's right around the corner.
When the sun comes
I'm going to be ready for lots of reflective light
in my home.
I'm adding more mirrors to soak up
and bounce around all things bright and sunny.

So I decided to use an older mirror

that I had stored away in the closet.

I built a box frame around it

and painted it with beachy stripes.

I built two rectangular frames.

One fit snug inside the mirror moulding.

The other was slight larger than the mirror.

Then I cut some fence boards

and mitered the corners.

Here you can see how the whole thing

comes together.

Once it's all attached

I held the mirror in on the back with

picture wire stretched between eye screws.

Give it a coat of white primer.

Then tape off the stripes.

I used a blue and cream mix to brush on.

Then gray and cream.

I used Minwax Early American Stain and Raw Sienna Paint mix

to brush lightly along the edges

and then wipe off.

I added my star mirror

I want to add more smaller mirrors

on my stairway wall.

Those will be some future projects!

Thay way I can have more reflection of the lake.

Actually, the whole project took less than 4 hours.

About 2 hours to build

and a little over an hour to paint.

( I won't say how long it took me to hang it!)

Now my flourish patterned mirror

is more suited to the beachy , coastal, lake style.

Okay, time to go dig out those old mirrors.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Your mirror sure does have a beachy feel to it, it looks just grand. Love the way that you built a frame around the framed mirror. Very nice!
